indieWIRE‘s Peter Knegt wrote a great and fairly in-depth article about the awards prospects of the oft-forgotten films that open before the real Oscar season gets into full-swing with the Toronto Film Festival. His “locks”? Annette Bening, Mark Ruffalo, Christopher Nolan, and Inception for Picture. So nothing too revelatory or out-there, though he does goes out on a limb and call Inside Job for both a nomination and win in the Documentary category.
Read the full article here, and see what else he has pegged as potential contenders in several categories.

My predictions for the visual technical categories (Editing, Cinematography, Art Direction, Visual Effects, and Make-up) are up and completed. Things I’m feeling good about?: lots of Inception, Tree of Life, and The Way Back. There’s still lots of questions about many of these categories. For example, will the Academy wait to honor the Potter series with The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 or will they jump the gun and start with a few random nominations for Pt. 1? And the pickings for the visual effects category seem surprisingly slim (could that mean that Scott Pilgrim vs the World could score a nomination? If only…)
