Best Supporting Actress

Last update: 10/4

1. Miranda Richardson, Made in Dagenham (NEW)

Early word has been stellar for this performance, and Richardson is a respected actress with previous nominations and no wins.  If the film manages a Best Picture nomination (which is a definite possibility) she’s a major threat for the win.

2. Helena Bonham-Carter, The King’s Speech (prev: 2)

A beloved actress playing a real-life royal? It’s like Oscar catnip.  With the film the current Best Picture frontrunner, Bonham-Carter should be a lock for her second nomination.

3. Dianne Wiest, Rabbit Hole (prev: 5)

The role won a Tony on Broadway, why not repeat that success with Oscar? However Weist has already won 2 Oscars, which might hurt her chances in case voters favor newbies this year. Still the film was a hit on the festival circuit…

4. Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit (NEW)

She was front-and-center in both trailers that have been released, and she appears to be the heart of the film (not to mention a co-lead with Bridges).  This is one category that loves to welcome child actors, especially real newcomers.

5. Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom (NEW)

Her performance has been receiving raves for this little-seen Aussie crime drama, and with a field this wide-opening she could surprise (especially if a solid campaign means people actually start seeing the film).
